REPRAP PRUSA: Pictures of the assembly

Here are a couple more pictures of my partially assembled REPRAP PRUSA (Mendel):

I assembled the two vertexes with little or no issues:

One vertex completed.

And the second Vertex is complete

And the second Vertex is complete

Here’s the vertexes with the front and rear rails added – none of this is tightened up yet as there are set distances between each of the plastic parts that are necessary for correct alignment.

Also, if you look closely at my left-hand monitor, you’ll see the visual assembly instructions I’m using that I got from here via the REPRAP wiki. It’s a pretty comprehensive guide. :)

Once the front and rear rails were attached I then had to add the top rails and their associated motor mounts. This left me with a slight hitch which I hope you can see clearly in the following image:

What I think has happened is that the Motor Mounts I was sent were drilled at a metric pitch of 66mm – when in fact the top vertex holes had been drilled at a pitch of 2.25 Inches – needless to say they didn’t fit. After brief discussion with the supplier of all of these plastic parts, I decided to try having them drilled out by a friendly manufacturing company based in Newbury, Berkshire on a subsequent visit.

Drilling just one of the holes to a 9.0mm O/D on both parts fixed the problem; which was good.

Now I just need to build the ‘X’ & ‘Y’ carriages, as well as the build platter and the mechanical side of things (so far) will be complete.

REPRAP PRUSA: the first parts have started to arrive..

Here’s a couple of pictures I took of the boxes that greeted me when I returned from leave on Wednesday this week:

And here’s a look inside the brown box:

And then a closer look into the contents of the smaller box:

All pretty standard stuff so far. Next though, I have some shots I took of the plastic parts I received from Justin @ Polytempo:

This was how the parts were when I opened the package from Polytempo – thankfully nothing was damaged! In fact, I might suggest to Justin that he thinks of a different method of packaging the parts in future.

On the whole, I’m pretty chuffed that for a little over 100GBP I have the necessary parts to create the frame for the REPRAP PRUSA (Mendel) I want to build.

Stay tuned as I’ll be posting about the other parts I need for this assembly as & when they are delivered.

The rise of the machines..

So I’ve finally taken the plunge and am going to build myself a?PRUSA Mendel; I’ve got the first mechanical parts due to arrive in the next few days. :-)
Do any of you know anybody who can get me a good deal on some NEMA 17 stepper motors. The best price I’ve found for the 5 I need to make this work is from here:
I bought these mechanical parts:
And I’m (hopefuly) getting the plastic parts I need from here:
All I need now is a full set of the electronics and I’m set. (Am waiting on hearing back from a guy via eBay for details of a RAMPS setup that’ll run 5 motors..
I’ll post photos once the parts arrive and be sure to document my progress.
:-)
